Terms of Use
Last updated 12 October 2026
The short version
- Her Scroll is a paid app with a free trial. The subscription renews until you cancel, and you can cancel at any time in your iPhone’s Settings.
- The Bible, SOAP study, your journal, your portrait, the cards you have kept and one card a day stay free.
- Her Scroll is for prayer and reading. It is not counselling, medical advice or a church.
- What you write in the app is yours and stays on your phone.
1. These terms
These terms are an agreement between you and Ville Pitkänen, Finland (“we”), the publisher of Her Scroll for iPhone (“the app”) and of this website. By downloading or using the app you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.
The app is licensed to you, not sold. Your licence is the one in Apple’s standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement, which applies together with these terms. If the two disagree about the licence itself, Apple’s agreement decides.
2. Who may use the app
Her Scroll is made for women and for girls of 13 and older. If you are under 18, or under the age at which you can enter a contract where you live, use the app with the agreement of a parent or guardian, who must be the one to buy any subscription.
3. What Her Scroll is, and is not
Her Scroll offers Scripture, prayers, short reflections and a place to write, for your own reading and prayer.
- It is not pastoral counselling, therapy, or medical, legal or financial advice, and it does not take the place of a pastor, a doctor or a counsellor.
- Your portrait is a reflection on what you told the app. It is not a prediction or a diagnosis.
- Her Scroll is not a church and is not affiliated with, or endorsed by, any church or denomination. Its Catholic prayers and readings are offered for private devotion and carry no official approval.
If you are in danger or thinking of harming yourself, please do not wait for an app. In the United States call or text 988, the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline, at any hour, or call 911 in an emergency. Elsewhere, call your local emergency number.
4. Subscriptions
The opening conversation, your portrait and the first cards of your feed are free. To go on with the full feed and the rest of the app you need a subscription.
- The plans. In the United States the yearly plan is $34.99 and the monthly plan is $5.99. The price that applies to you is always shown in the app before you buy.
- The free trial. The yearly plan begins with a 7-day free trial for new subscribers. If you do not cancel at least a day before the trial ends, the first year is charged when it ends.
- Payment and renewal. Payment is taken by Apple through your Apple Account. A subscription renews for the same period, at the price then current, until you cancel. You are charged for each renewal within the 24 hours before the current period ends.
- Cancelling. You can cancel at any time: on your iPhone open Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions, and choose Her Scroll. Cancel at least a day before a renewal to avoid being charged for it. After you cancel, the subscription stays open until the end of the period you have paid for. Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription.
- Refunds. Purchases are made with Apple, and refunds are decided by Apple. You can ask for one at reportaproblem.apple.com. Nothing in these terms takes away a right to a refund that the law gives you.
- Price changes. If we change the price of a plan you hold, Apple will tell you beforehand and, where the rules require it, ask you to agree before you are charged the new price.
What stays free. Whether or not you subscribe, these stay open to you: the whole Bible in the text you chose, SOAP study and your journal, your portrait, the cards you have kept, and one card from your feed each day. If a subscription ends, nothing you wrote or kept is taken away.
5. What you write
Your journal, your studies, your hopes and your prayers are yours. They are stored on your iPhone and are not sent to us (see Privacy). Because we hold no copy, we cannot restore them if your phone is lost. Backing up your iPhone keeps them safe.
6. Sharing cards
You are welcome to share the cards and the portrait the app makes for you, with friends and on social media. Please do not sell them, and do not present them as coming from someone else.
7. The content, and how it is made
- The Bible. The app carries six Bible texts that are free for everyone to use. They are credited on the Bible texts page and in the app. A card shows the words of the text you chose; a psalm’s title is shown as a heading, and in two of the texts a quotation mark left without its pair on a single verse is given it.
- What we write. The reflections, prayers, stories and other original text in the app are prepared for Her Scroll with the help of AI writing tools, and every item is read and approved by a person before it is included. Traditional prayers are given in their customary wording.
- The voices. The voices you hear are computer-generated. Each recording is made ahead of time and checked against its text.
- Mistakes. We work to quote Scripture exactly and to write with care, and we may still get something wrong. If you find a mistake, please tell us at hello@herscroll.com.
8. What belongs to us
The app, its design, its name and mark, and the original text and audio in it belong to Ville Pitkänen and are protected by law. The Bible texts belong to everyone. You may use the app for your own personal, non-commercial use. Please do not copy the app or its original content in bulk, resell it, or try to get round the subscription.
9. Changes to the app
We add to Her Scroll and sometimes change or remove a feature. The app is offered on the App Store in the United States, for iPhones running iOS 17 or later. We may stop offering it; if we do, what you wrote stays on your phone.
10. What we promise, and what we cannot
We make Her Scroll with care, and we want it to serve you well. We cannot promise that it will always be available, free of errors, or right for your situation. To the extent the law allows, the app is provided “as is”, without warranties of any kind beyond those the law does not let us exclude.
11. Limits on liability
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses arising from your use of the app, and our total liability to you for any claim about the app is limited to the greater of what you paid for it in the twelve months before the claim and 50 US dollars. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, or takes away rights you have as a consumer where you live.
12. Ending
You may stop using the app at any time by deleting it; remember to cancel any subscription first, as section 4 explains. We may end your licence if you seriously break these terms.
13. Apple
These terms are between you and us, not Apple. Apple is not responsible for the app or its content and has no duty to provide support for it. If the app fails to meet a warranty that applies, you may tell Apple, which will refund what you paid for it; beyond that, to the extent the law allows, Apple has no other warranty obligation for the app. Claims about the app, including claims that it infringes someone’s rights, are ours to deal with, not Apple’s. You confirm that you are not in a country under a United States government embargo and are not on a United States government list of prohibited or restricted parties. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them.
14. Disagreements
If something goes wrong, please write to us first at hello@herscroll.com; most things can be put right that way. Nothing in these terms takes away the protection of the consumer laws of the place where you live, or your right to bring a claim in the courts there.
15. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. The new date will be at the top of this page, and if a change is a significant one we will also say so in the app’s update notes. Using the app after a change means you accept the updated terms.
