The short version

Who we are

Her Scroll is published by Ville Pitkänen, Finland. In this policy “we” means the publisher, and “the app” means Her Scroll for iPhone. You can reach us at hello@herscroll.com.

What the app keeps on your phone

To choose Scripture for the season you are in, the app remembers what you tell it and what you do in it:

All of this is stored in the app on your iPhone and nowhere else. It is not sent to us, and we have no way to see it. Much of it is personal, and some of it touches on faith, on health and on loss. That is the reason the app was built to keep it on your phone.

If you back up your iPhone to iCloud or to a computer, the app’s data is part of your own backup, as it is for most apps. That backup is between you and Apple. It is how your journal follows you to a new phone.

To erase everything the app holds, delete the app. If you later restore your iPhone from a backup made before that, the data in that backup comes back with it.

What the app sends, and to whom

The app sends us nothing about you. It makes only these connections:

Reminders are scheduled by the app on your phone; no message is sent from a server. The widgets read the app’s own data on your phone. When you share a card, it goes to the app or the person you choose, through your iPhone’s own share sheet, and to nobody else.

Age

We do not ask your age. Her Scroll is made for women and for girls of 13 and older, and nothing in it is unsuitable for a thirteen-year-old.

In some places the law asks apps to take account of a reader’s age range. Where that applies, your iPhone may offer to share an age range with the app, with your agreement or a parent’s. If it does, the app is told only a range (for example, under 18), keeps it on the phone, and uses it only to leave out a few cards written for adults. We do not receive it.

We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children under 13. If you are a parent and believe your child has written to us, tell us and we will delete the message.

If you write to us

When you send us an email we receive your address and whatever you write. We use them to answer you and to put right what you tell us about. We keep the correspondence for up to two years and then delete it, and sooner if you ask. Our email is carried by our domain registrar’s forwarding service and by our mailbox provider, which handle it on our behalf and may process it in the United States and other countries. Please do not send us anything you would not want kept in an inbox.

This website

This site sets no cookies and uses no analytics, no advertising and nothing loaded from another company: no fonts, scripts or pictures from elsewhere. Our server is shown your internet address when it sends you a page, as every website’s is, and is set not to keep a record of it.

What Apple shares with developers

If you have agreed on your iPhone to share analytics with app developers, Apple gives us figures such as how many people downloaded the app and how often it crashed. They are counts. They do not identify you and we do not combine them with anything else.

What we do not do

Your choices and your rights

Because the app’s data never leaves your phone, it is already in your hands: you can read it, change it and erase it there, and there is no copy with us to ask for.

For anything you have sent us by email, you can ask us what we hold, ask for a copy, ask us to correct it or ask us to delete it. Write to hello@herscroll.com and we will answer within 30 days. We will not treat you differently for asking. Depending on where you live, the law may give you these rights by name, for example in California, in other US states, in the European Economic Area and in the United Kingdom. Where the law asks for a reason for handling your email, ours is our legitimate interest in answering the people who write to us. If you believe we have handled your information wrongly, you may also complain to the data protection authority where you live.

Keeping it safe

What the app holds is protected by your iPhone’s own passcode and encryption. If your phone is lost and you have no backup, what you wrote in the app is lost with it, and we cannot recover it.

Changes to this policy

If the app or this site begins to handle information differently, we will change this page first and put the new date at the top. If a change is a significant one, we will also say so in the app’s update notes.
